12. Weekend with Loren

Friday, January 25th, 2019

It was time to leave Panama City Beach and head south (and east) along the coast to my friend Loren's. The first hour of the drive was through smaller roads, but then the majority of it was non-exciting interstate driving. At least, with the except of a few slow-downs, it went pretty quickly and without excitement.

I arrived at Loren's for supper, and both of us were pretty worn out and decided just to stay in, order pizza, and test out some rums. It was a lot of fun to catch up with him and hear about living in Florida.

The original plan for the weekend was to go see 2 of Loren's shows. Unfortunately, both shows were outdoors and the forecast called for cold and rainy by Florida standards (50s and 60s). Loren's shows were canceled, so we spent the afternoon at Hurricane Charley's seeing Jack Mosley. Afterward we just relaxed, chatted, and had rum drinks....ahhhh......

The rain really put a damper on doing anything outdoors, we just hung around the house, had rum drinks, and caught up. Every so often you just need a relaxing day. We did take a little tour of the Englewood area during a small break in the rain - I'd definitely like to get back when it's nicer out. Loren did showcase a few of his new songs for me though! Hopefully they'll be out on a new album soon!

Even though the weekend didn't go as planned, Loren and I still had a great time. We decided to get breakfast at the Spinnaker Cafe just down the street before I got on my way. After that we said good-bye until we run into each other again and I got on my way.

It was a nice easy drive down Alligator Alley. My plan was to get to Fort Lauderdale for a late lunch and then check into my hotel early. When I got to my intended restaurant it was closed, but luckily there was a Pollo Tropical just down the road! It's a chain, but not quite fast food, and definitely not something I can get locally, so I love to go here when I'm in Florida - plus it's pretty good BBQ meats with a tropical flare!

After lunch I was able to check into my hotel early and requested an oceanside room which I got! There is literally nothing between me and the ocean but beach! Once I settled in I got in some work since this week is supposed to be mostly a work week, though at least it will be warmer weather than back home.
