05. Pardi Gras Pub Crawl

I remember thinking today would be more productive than yesterday.
I was, simply put, wrong.
Plans to get breakfast quickly became plans to get lunch. However, that wasn't such a bad thing despite missing out on several hours of gorgeous New Orleans weather (I think it's somewhere around 60 degrees warmer than Madison right now, but honestly, I'm afraid to check). Lunch was at a quaint local joint called Cafe Pontalba, which may have been one of my favorite meals so far. It started off which a bloody mary to take away any feelings of motivation. After that, I had a crawfish combination platter - crawfish caesar salad, crawfish etoufee, and crawfish pie. Everything was great, but the crawfish pie was absolutely wonderful. I might stop back for another one of these whenever I walk past, and I might go out of my way to make sure I walk past.
My friends Christine and Michelle found me after the pub crawl and figured I either looked like I was drunk or starving - either way recognizing that I needed food - so we went to Cafe Maspero for dinner. We made it back from that for the second line parade around the French Quarter.
The rest of the evening was had a great music line up, so I headed back towards that, but then found my friend Tammy in search of food. We tried Johnny White's Pub and Grill (not to be confused with the Hole in the Wall bar downstairs), but left after around 20 minutes of not being attended to at all. Tammy mentioned this has happened here several times before. We went back to Orleans Grapevine so Tammy could get dinner(s) and I could get dessert (hey, don't judge - sometimes the portions are really small at upscale restaurants!!!!). Finally, after a little downtime from the big parrothead group for dinners, I rejoined the rest of the phlock for an evening of music at Tropical Isle.

Nothing wrong with an official day drinking koozie! |
The afternoon was full of music and eventually a pub crawl. Scratch that....if your day starts at lunchtime, then the next thing up is the pub crawl. The pub crawl was a lot of fun, but we had a lot of places to go and not a lot of time at each one, so you had to drink your drinks really quickly. I of course didn't fight against that challenge.
